Windward Twilight Series week 5:

Simon and Julie Dolman took line honours on Wednesday night in race 5 of the series. Simon takes up the story of the night:

We were a bit short on numbers again, with only five boats signing on. The forecast clearly put some people off and Mark Nield made a last-minute call not to race due to the conditions. Mark Heaton then had an uphaul break just before the start and Ian Duncan capsized moments beforehand, giving the rest of the fleet a headstart early. Neither of the Lasers had a great first beat either, which was great as the wind direction allowed Gaz to set a long one the length of the lake.

The shifty, gusty conditions made things tricky for everyone and all three single-handers had their fair share of moments, costing them valuable distance.

It was great racing in challenging but enjoyable conditions. Thanks to RO Gaz for recognising that we were having fun and allowing us a five-lap race.

Windward Twilight Series race 5:

1.        Simon and Julie Dolman (Miracle), 2. Ian Duncan (Laser), 3. Ian McCready (Laser)

However Simon and Julie couldnt quite break into the top three places overall, sliding into fourth position by 0.67pts!

Overall after 5 races:

1.        Ian Duncan (Laser) 5pts, 2. Ian McCready (Laser) 8.67pts, 3. Conrad Brown (Laser) 9pts
