Summer racing prizes!

With the Autumn rapidly approaching, Dave Thomas takes a look at the Summer racing, that culminated in a grand prize giving today, Sunday 30th August.
Well, what a Summer we have had this year, with three well-attended series and with really good weather to sail in.
The Summer morning series had 57 different entries, with some of those opting for smaller sails for those windy days. The podium positions were shared between no less than 13 different racers.
Up at the top Mark and Matt contended for 1st place. It was the final day of racing that decided it, Mark squeezing in with an advantage of just 1.28 points after 16 races! How close do you want your racing!
The Summer afternoon series historically has a fairly low turnout, when compared to the morning racing. However, this year saw an increase in turnout, with double figures seen throughout, proving the current format has proved very popular. There were 39 different entries in the series, with podiums shared by 12 different sailors.
Now if you like your finishes close then this is a close as you can get! Both Mark and Phil finished with 7.8 points each. Phil finished highest in the last race so takes the win, leaving Dave and Ian in 3rd and 4th, both finished equal with 16 points.
The Wednesday evening sailing has been equally well attended throughout the year and this series was no exception with 39 different entries. Wednesday nights also featured lots and lots of wind, sometimes maybe too much at times, resulting in some lively, challenging racing and a very busy safety boat team. We also had our back on the water. Great to see you back Jeremy. This led to a very close series, that again went down to the last race where Mark pipped Jeremy to the win by 0.10 points.
It has also been great to so many of the new members out on the water, making great progress and moving up through the fleet. Keep it all going all of you and get organised for the Autumn and Winter series.
The next series start next week with the Autumn morning and afternoon handicap series, on Sunday 6th September.
