Windsurfing Adult

What is the RYA Windsurfing Scheme?
The RYA Windsurfing Scheme is designed to take beginners from their very first steps on the board to confident, independent windsurfers. The pathway is suitable for both adults and youth, with specially adapted formats for different age groups. The learning process is progressive, with each course building on the skills of the last.
For those brand new to the sport, Start Windsurfing is the entry-level course. It focuses on giving you a solid foundation in balance, steering, and sail control in light winds. You'll learn how to launch, turn around, and sail short distances while getting used to the feeling of being on the board. The course uses modern, beginner-friendly kit and usually takes place in calm water to make learning enjoyable and achievable.
Once you're comfortable on the water, Intermediate Windsurfing (Non-Planing) helps you refine your technique. This includes better stance and control, tacking and gybing with more confidence, and learning how to sail more effectively in slightly stronger winds. It's also when you'll start learning about harness use and how to sail upwind more efficiently.
As your skills develop, the Intermediate Planing course introduces faster, more dynamic sailing. You'll learn how to use footstraps, control the board at higher speeds, and maybe even get your first taste of planing - when the board lifts and skims across the water.
For more advanced riders, courses in Advanced Windsurfing cover exciting techniques like carve gybing, waterstarts, and performance tuning, helping you get the most out of your board and sail in a variety of conditions.
Whether you're after a new hobby, want to improve existing skills, or are aiming for more adrenaline-fueled performance sailing, the RYA Windsurfing pathway offers a clear and supportive way to progress.
