Sunday racing

Sunday 17th May - another lively 3 race programme. Sailing Secretary Simon Dolman was there:
Well done today, everyone — there was some great competitive sailing across all three races!
A huge thank you to everyone who helped out on duty and especially to Sara for stepping in at very late notice as safety boat crew, despite already being at the requested volunteer quota of five duties. Your support is hugely appreciated Sara!
There were some notable changes up and down the race results today. Mark Roberts showed once again that he is definitely one to watch when he shifts into top gear, while Judith Stratton — despite being relatively new to racing — continues to sail consistently well and is clearly pushing hard to compete in her Lightning - Great to see.
For any newer racers who would like to build a better understanding of racing, I would be happy to put together an informal session covering topics such as:
- Understanding the racing rules
- How to use the rules to your advantage and avoid fouling others
- Wind direction and wind shifts
- Race starts and positioning on the line including:
- Where you want to be to be competitive
- Or where you definitely dont want to end up if youre trying to stay clear of others
If that sounds useful, let me know and Ill look to arrange something perhaps one evening with some chips .
Hope to see as many of you as possible on Tuesday for the Border County Series at Shotwick.
What Simon failed to mention was that he and Julie took first place in race 7, finishing just 8 seconds ahead of Mark on corrected time! Putting them into second place overall after 8 races. Well done Simon and Julie! And just look at Mark and Conrad sharing first place in race 8…
In the afternoon the Spring Handicap Series race 4 took place. Mark Nield also topped the podium, completing a successful day.
