June Regatta

And it was a wild one! Dave Thomas was there…

June Regatta day of fun on Shotwick Lake.

It all started off rather ominously with race officer Jonathan debating where to set the course, hoping to give us challenging beats and fun reaches - oh and we will chuck in a few gybes. The wind picked up quickly and the boats went over! Of the 22 boats on the water it was probably easier to say who did not try to challenge Nick and Brian for their 50 metre badge. Eventually it was decided enough-was-enough and race 1 was abandoned, frustrating for those who actually managed to finish.

We all headed in for an early lunch, catching Dot out with the early demand for her bacon butties!

After the bacon butties had been consumed the wind dropped off a bit and was a lot steadier. A new course was set with no gybes but not so many helms ventured out with the fear it would blow up again! However the conditions stayed fairly constant, although still rather flukey, for the two back-to-back races for the 8 boats battling it out for places. In fact it turned out to be an enjoyable afternoon, spray from planing, sunshine and no rain, what more could you ask for.

Did Phil Watson continue his dominance and get it all his own way? Read on to see the results from Sunday and the overall positions in the Regatta Series.

Sunday 28th June 2026 June Regatta:

Race 1 - abandoned.

Race 2: 1. Matthew Bennett (Solo), 2. Mark Nield (Laser), 3. Chris Draper (Topper)

Race 3: 1. Chris Draper (Topper), 2. Mark Nield (Laser), 3. Dave Thomas (Solo)

Where was Phil? Well he was just outside the podium places in 4th place in both races.

So the June Regatta final results: 1. Chris Draper (Topper), 2. Mark Nield (Laser), 3. Dave Thomas (Solo)

And yes overall in the Regatta Series, including June, Phil is still in the top spot. But the rest of the fleet is chasing hard!

2026 Regatta Series to June:

1. Phil Watson (Streaker) 6pts 2. Dave Thomas (Solo) 9pts 3. Ian Duncan (Laser) 11pts

And the quote of the day, and the photo, goes to Paul James: Watching Etty Ketty nose dive on Sunday and nearly go under as Clare and Ian headed to shore reminded me of the opening scene from Pirates of the Caribbean…
