Saturday Juniors on the lake

The Saturday afternoon Junior accompanied sessions continued last weekend, with a great outing in variable conditions. Numbers were down due to several youngsters being on holiday, but the weather meant that both youngsters and parents present were able to get out on the water. Club boats were also deployed and alongside Les and Richard providing safety boat cover, several experienced club members were there to provide advice both on and off the water. Early arrivals meant the session kicked off early at 1pm. This turned out to be very fortunate as the gentle breeze turned quite lively just as the youngsters were heading in for a drink and a snack! Only the more experienced went back out, including one Mum who decided to demonstrate the art of the capsize to the delight of at least one of the youngsters!
The sessions are held every other Saturday afternoon, for club members. All club youngsters are encouraged to to come along. All you need to do is bring along a responsible adult who will be responsible for you throughout the session. A safety boat is deployed and a tag-in/out system and beach coordinator is present throughout. Usually more experienced club members are around to offer advice and support and it is a great way of less experienced adults to safely get on the water with or alongside their youngsters.
Many thanks to experienced club members Chris Snow, Jude Stratton and James Stark for helping on the water, Safety boat helm Les Perry and crew Richard Stratton.
The next session is being held on Saturday 30th May. To learn more and register interest adults can join the Junior Sailing WhatsApp group… login to this website to access the code.
As always such sessions require volunteer support: safety boat helm and crew, coordinator, general support. Ask on the WhatsApp group if you are available to help. Full training is provided (Safety helm requires PB2 and club specific endorsement).
