Quiz Night Success

Friday 13th was lucky for some as club members assembled at the clubhouse for another tremendous quiz and fish and chip evening organised by Julie Dolman and her team. The quiz was of course in the hands of Gaz - members all fully up to speed with their signal flags, just in case!
Julie shared her view of the evening:
Judging by the chatter, laughter and the many positive comments shared afterwards, the quiz night was a resounding success. There was a real sense of camaraderie throughout the evening, with everyone clearly enjoying both the social atmosphere and the friendly competition. The night began on a high note, with the local fish and chip shop once again delivering a flawless order of over 40 meals. The food was thoroughly enjoyed by all and set the tone for a great evening. Following the meal, Ron and Dot kindly provided tea, coffee, and cookies, which were very much appreciated.
Participants then remained in their seats, forming seven teams of varying sizes. As expected, Gaz had put together an excellent quiz, featuring eight diverse rounds that catered to all interests and abilities. From Who Am I? to What Came First? the questions sparked plenty of discussion, along with a fair share of imaginative answers! The room was filled with laughter and lively conversation, although the competitive spirit was never far away. Teams spoke and guarded their answers carefully, with one even (jokingly!) accusing Julie, who was not competing, of trying to sneak a look while handing out sweets. After the rounds were completed, teams swapped papers for marking and Gaz tallied the scores. The results were incredibly close: the winning team finished just one point ahead, while second and third place were tied just a single point behind. To decide the final standings, a tie-breaker question was introduced for the top three teams:
How many people took part in the largest gathering of people dressed as penguins?
After much deliberation, the team Up Shit Creek Without a Paddle came out on top in the tie-breaker. This meant that last years champions,Gaz told us the answers again retained their title, winning by a single point. Second place went to Up Shit Creek Without a Paddle while an impressive third place, Shy Hawks was claimed by a team of just two participants, arguably the nights standout performers. Well done Paul and Rick.
A huge thank you goes to everyone who contributed to making the evening such a success. Special thanks to Ron and Dot for their help with setting up, refreshments and clearing up afterwards and of course to our ever-reliable quiz master Gaz, who once again delivered a fantastic quiz.
