Shotwick Lake Sailing is an RYA recognised training establishment for tuition in Windsurfing.  We are currently able to offer the ‘Start’ windsurfing courses for adults, and junior coaching at levels 1 & 2, and we hope to offer the intermediate courses in the near future. Pupil to instructor ratios are 6:1. The course fee includes RYA Logbook, RYA Handbook and, for successful candidates, RYA Certificate.

Thanks to the support of Starboard and Tushingham Sails UK we have been able to obtain the latest equipment, giving you the best start to your windsurfing journey!

We have a selection of sails of different sizes, suited to a range of conditions, as well as stable wide boards enabling us to accommodate you from the age of 8 upwards.

Both the adult ‘Start’ and Junior Level 1 & 2 courses introduce you to the basics.

We will teach you about the various items of equipment you will be using, how to set it all up, and run through the principals and the techniques on our dry-land simulator. Then you’ll be introduced to the water with balance exercises, learning how to stand on the board, how to get going, and of course how to get back safely! All in the sheltered inland environment of Shotwick Lake. We will always have an Instructor on the water with you demonstrating techniques and talking you through each element of the course and a safety boat is always on hand.

Details of the dates of the courses are on the (Training Calendar)

Advanced blasting on a summer day!
For more advanced windsurfers we are able to offer excellent sailing conditions. Being situated at the head of the Dee estuary we benefit from superb wind conditions, excellent club facilities including changing rooms, showers, club house and clear waters for safe blasting. We do operate a ‘buddy sailing’ system for safety and members may make use of the Members Calendar on this website to indicate when they plan to be on the water. We also have a page on the RYA Project Windsurf website which can be used as a forum for making plans to sail, etc.
