Start Windsurfing course this May at Shotwick Lake Sailing
Learn the basics of the exciting sport of windsurfing this May at Shotwick Lake! A two-day course is planned to run over two Saturdays in May – the 9th and 16th. Our courses run with small numbers of students to ensure we can offer personalised tuition tailored to your needs and abilities – our aim is to get you on the water and sailing (whilst smiling!) within the first morning! Please contact us for more information (see windsurfing or training under the ‘contact’ tab on the website). The course costs £100 including all equipment except for wetsuit and footwear (which you can buy from us or from a local retailer for modest cost) and places are limited – as of 26th February there are only 2 places remaining!
Hello! I have been a windsurfing member at Shotwick Lake since 2010, having just moved to Chester from Cumbria in January of that year.
I previously sailed and windsurfed on Ullswater, and worked as a volunteer instructor at Windermere (Lakes Leisure).
I started windsurfing in my mid-twenties and became an instructor on my 30th birthday! - having trained at Loch Ken in the Scottish Borders. Having worked as a volunteer instructor at Loch Ken, in Cornwall and on Windermere I did the RYA Senior Instructor course at Salford Watersports in 2008, and became an Intermediate Non-Planing Instructor at Coverack in Cornwall in 2009.
I really enjoy both windsurfing and teaching at Shotwick Lake (and, confession time, sailing our dinghy - yes, I do dabble in seated sailing too!) - the convenient location, the clean winds from the Dee estuary, the views over towards the Welsh and Wirral hills, and the friendly atmosphere. I wish I was a windsurfing 'hot-shot', but guess I never will be! - but would love to see more windsurfers coming together at the Club to enjoy sharing their love for the sport!
I sit on the Board of the Club as Windsurfing Secretary and would be very happy to hear from anyone who has any thoughts or ideas for the development of Windsurfing at Shotwick. Thanks!
