Windsurfing News 2007

Combined Taster Day, Sunday 19th August

The weather on Sunday afternoon was wet and very windy.

Luckily nobody wanted to have a go at windsurfing!!

Only Ian who’s a seasoned windsurfing pro was out on the water.

So not to disappoint all those potential budding windsurfers I will be holding two further taster sessions this weekend (25th and 26th August).

They will be held on Saturday afternoon before the barbeque and Sunday afternoon after the racing.

See you at the weekend.

Pete

Camping Weekend

Due to Sylvia's ill health at the moment (luckily not life threatening)
There will be nobody to organise and run the 2nd windsurfing camping
weekend.
Members can still go on the camping weekend, but will have to make their
own arrangements.

Regards

Pete

Open Day, Saturday 16th June

The weather on Saturday morning was not looking good, no wind and a bit of drizzle to really depress everybody! But as if by magic at 11am the rain stopped and a nice NW breeze started.

I was hoping for an easy day, no such luck, 11 o’clock came and I had my  first novice windsurfer. This continued well into the afternoon. Generally people would start with a session on the land based simulator to learn the basics of turning, then it was on to the water for some serious wobbling! I think everybody that had a go managed to enjoy the experience, even if they only went in one direction!

I welcome all you beginners to the DARKSIDE! and hope to see all you new ‘surfers’ down at the lake on Saturday’s.

See you soon, Pete

Plans for 2007

My plan for windsurfing this summer is to encourage people to come down to the lake on Saturday’s…..just to practice not falling in! Turning around! Tricks! Blasting! Or if you’re a serious type, practicing serious windsurfing stuff! (whatever that is?)

I intend to be at the lake most Saturdays so either phone or e-mail if you’re interested. or you can leave contact details on the ‘members calendar.’

Also, I will try and convince the club to purchase some new kit for beginners. So, if you would like to learn or have a go on modern, stable, easy turning kit then you can assist me by letting the club management know!

Sylvia has made a valiant effort running the windsurfing section over the last few years and we thank her for keeping it afloat! She hasn’t retired completely as she will still be looking after the camping weekends; see windsurf calendar

See you soon, Pete
