End of Season Pursuit Race 17th Dec 2006

The last race of the season proved to be a resounding success for the twenty four boats who competed. The pursuit race gave the slower boats a chance to get ahead, although the first boats over the start line drifted along in light airs before the faster boats joined them in a welcome breeze. First place went to Solo sailor Geoff Siddel while the overall winner of the Frostbite Series, Dave Turtle and Huw Jones struggled against their personal handicap set according to their sterling performance throughout the Frostbite Series.


2007 Training Calendar

As this years Training Programme  draws to a  close, Tim Bowden is already planning next year. 2007 promises to be a great year for anyone wanting to improve their skills in a wide range of disciplines. With new training dinghies, experienced and enthusiastic instructors, and the cost of courses kept to a bare minimum  here is no excuse for not checking out if there is a course suitable for you.

End of Season Dance 24th Nov 2006

 

This years End of Season Dance and Presentation of Awards, held at Connah's Quay Civic Hall was a resounding success thoroughly enjoyed by all. The evening started with a highly entertaining video presentation created by Richard Jones, showing some of this years antics on the water. Speeches from Tony Forster, and Sailing Secretary Carl Jones highlighted some of the successes we have achieved this year, namely, an increased membership, better training facilities, higher turn-outs for race meetings, and the near completion of the purchase of the lake.

The presentations moved swiftly on, and soon we were dancing to the sounds of Dave Morgan's disco who kept the dance floor full with a great selection of music for all ages.

Autumn Regatta 2006

Despite a delay due to a passing thunderstorm this years Autumn Regatta proved a great success. Joe Sargent took first prize in his Laser notching up a first and a second out of three races.

Solo Open 10th Sept 2006

 

The most popular single hander at Shotwick Lake saw their numbers swell to an impressive 28 boats during this years Open event. A glorious days sailing was had with plenty of sunshine and wind all day.

First place went to Oliver Dunbelton who over the three races achieved a 1st and two 2nd's. Steve Hopson proved to be the fastest Shotwick man placed 15th overall.

Grand Launch July 2006

 

From Left: Bob Lowe, chairman Welsh Yachting Association, Carl Sergeant AM, Mark Tami MP, Cllr Ron Davies, chairman AD Waste, Tony Forster, Shotwick Lake Sailing, Alan Morris, manufacturing director Corus Shotton, Mark Isherwood AM, John Grey, Flintshire Local Voluntary Council.

Following two hard years of fund raising by the former Corus Sailing Club to purchase the lake from the Welsh Assembly, Commodore Tony Forster welcomed members and visitors to the grand opening of Shotwick Lake.

Tony Forster received the key to Shotwick Lake from the Welsh Assembly and Corus. A commemorative plaque was unveiled by Flintshire Local Voluntary Council.

Thanks were made to all those who have helped the success of the purchase, in particular, Sportlot via the Sports Council for Wales, AD Waste via Flintshire Community Trust, Flintshire Local Voluntary trust, and to the members of Corus Sailing Club for their generous donations.

Carl Sergeant, representing the Welsh Assembly Government said: ‘I am delighted that Shotwick Lake Sailing has been able to purchase the lake. With its fully open membership, Shotwick Lake Sailing is a wonderful community resource; indeed, it is the only facility of its kind in Flintshire’. He went on to say: ‘Earlier this year I was delighted to announce that Shotwick Lake Sailing had been selected to receive a Welsh Assembly Community Facilities and Activities Programme grant to the sum of £18,000.’

The rest of the day saw much activity on the lake with sailing, windsurfing and canoe polo alike. The events were helped along with a buffet and barbeque to which all were welcome.
