    A few years ago, the Sunday racing series was run so that there were two competitions for the first and second races. This format enables :

    1. People who only have time to sail in one race can take an active part in a race series;

    2. People who struggle to get a crew in a double hander could do one race in the double hander and one in a single hander again to enable an active part in the race series – this may work well for people with Junior crews/helms who only want to do one race.

    What are the views on something to split the races into two series again?

    In practical terms there is no problem in going back to this format. Currently we run 3 series each covering 9 weekends, given a total of 27 weekends. When this was tried in 2011 the first race of the day were run as 3 series of 9 races each i.e. the same weekends as the current series. The second race was split between 2 series of 14 & 13 races respectively.

    If I remember correctly some of the negative comments from members were that they felt the 9 race series were too short, that the longer series spanned too much of the year and that they got confused as to which series they were racing in on a particular day. So if we want to gain the benefits outlined by Andy, what we need is consensus on the min/max no. of races in a series given the impact on the duration (in weeks) for a series. Thoughts?

    Having the races split into 2 separate Series breaks the continuity and confused us as to which Series we were competing in – especially when looking at the results.

    As mentioned in the later start post, the thinking here is to reduce the time required to be able to actively compete in Sunday racing through either reducing the elapsed time required to be spent at the club or making it possible to compete through only entering one race. Makes the series more accessible which can only be a good thing.

    An alternative would be three shorter races…
